Dear Fans of Tantalum:
Three years ago I set out to create a publication that celebrates the creative collaboration between artists and creatives by providing a platform to display their amazing work, to inspire readers with beautiful imagery and to learn what it takes to create it. My hope was through “showing the stories behind the stories,” together we could remove the layers of fear and uncertainty that new artists experience when they decide to start shooting fashion and beauty editorials.
Initially Armando (the technical heart of Tantalum) and I envisioned Tantalum Magazine to be a quarterly publication; having full time jobs and not really knowing what we were doing we figured that would be a doable start.
Boy, were we wrong!
One week after we launched, we had a flood of submissions and Tantalum was forced to make a decision: Should we go from our quarterly model or start showing the great work coming in every month? We became a monthly publication. In producing our first seven issues, we scrambled to learn page layout, photo editing, coding, copy editing, interviewing, and managing artists, emails and logistics that came with learning a new job—literally on the job. All of this was in effort to honor the amazing work coming in by creating quality layouts that would make our fellow artists shine and deliver their work to a burgeoning worldwide audience.
Here we are launching our OCTOBER issues! Thanks to our loyal fans and amazing contributors. It’s been a wonderful 38 editorial issues, 32 beauty issues—in sum 70 editions of Tantalum—hundreds of editorials and countless hours of wonderful inspiration for our readers!
All this time we have purposely kept our publication free and open, letting fans and contributors enjoy Tantalum via their laptops and devices, as well as offering a printed option. After exploring traditional advertising, sponsorship, affiliate programs and venture capital funds, we found none of these options feasible. Some created too much clutter on our site, some wanted to dictate what we show and do, and some were just unsustainable. After weighing all our options, we have decided to ask the ultimate of you, our fans and contributors.
Starting October 1st we will be switching to be a digital subscription magazine, meaning that for a small monthly or annual fee, you can keep enjoying all of Tantalum Magazine’s content every month. We will be offering Tantalum at $1.29 every month or $9.99 a year (a $5.49 savings over the monthly subscription) starting October 1st.
However, If you would like to give the gift of a Tantalum Subscription to friends or family CLICK HERE
Tantalum will be free for you to enjoy until September 30th at 11:59pm Pacific Time. We would love nothing more to keep Tantalum Magazine free, but for our long-term success and to ultimately grow, we need your help. We would like to start doing more in-depth interviews with artists and designers, commission editorials, create how-to and behind the scenes videos, and increase our social media presence. Most of all, we would like to be able to offer a significantly cheaper print version of the magazine. Lastly, we would like to pay our staff that all have full time jobs but still do Tantalum Magazine out of love.
As we launch our OCTOBER Issues we are both super scared but very optimistic that you, our fans and contributors, will see the value in Tantalum Magazine and help us grow so we can continue bringing you our labor of love for many more years to come.
