DESCENDING SHADOWS BY DORIT THIES SUMMARY
We all got together for the first time, collaborating and creating a gorgeous beauty spread based on the concept of a fantasy forest, nymphs and mystery and the look needed to be bold and unpolished, raw, magical and fun. The make up needed to look like it was applied with your fingers only. As a former Makeup artist and now an established beauty photographer I love challenging myself and the team around me. Discovering what is new and fresh and to do something that maybe scares us a tiny bit.
When I was envisioning this layout I thought I had to shoot this in the studio with colored lights. I had everything set up but after shooting a few frames on the first model I realized that I needed to step outside in the open and use the direct sun light instead, use the tropical foliage that I had to create interesting shadows on their faces with, which added to the drama and told the story of a forest. To dramatize it even further and to give it another layer I color corrected the images later in post into the cooler tones. I think you can tell that we all had a ton of fun that day.
